Perspectives on Poverty The readings, ââ¬Å"What is Povertyâ⬠by Jo Goodwin Parker and ââ¬Å"The Poverty of Equalityâ⬠by Stephen Moore and Peter Ferrara, both share the topic of poverty. They are different because each author expresses their point of view differently. Summarizing ââ¬Å"What is Povertyâ⬠, the author goes through a serious of misfortunate events on a daily basis to acquire food, yet her gatherings are not enough. On the other hand, the author of ââ¬Å"The Poverty of Equalityâ⬠explains that it is unfair that the fortunate society has to sacrifice in order to be equal. In ââ¬Å"What is Povertyâ⬠the author shares her personal experience regarding poverty, while in ââ¬Å"The Poverty of Equalityâ⬠the author uses somebodyââ¬â¢s story to express his point; they also stand in two different situations. Although ââ¬Å"What is Povertyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Poverty of Equalityâ⬠have similar topics, they are very different in terms of the authorsââ¬â¢ perspectives, the situation regarding the topic, and the results. Initially, in each story the authorââ¬â¢s perspective on the subject of the stories is highly different. The authorââ¬â¢s perspective of ââ¬Å"What is Povertyâ⬠illustrate to the audience what poverty is really like, and all the struggles they suffer every day. The quote, ââ¬Å"For breakfast I give my children grits with no oleo or cornbread without eggs and oleoâ⬠demonstrates the malnutrition the children go through.
